Government determined to support companies to boost national production

ALGIERS- The government is determined to support the public and private companies to boost the national production and revive the national sector, declared Tuesday in Algiers Minister of Industry, SMEs and Investment Promotion Cherif Rahmani.

Several actions are already launched by the government to improve the quality of the national production, he affirmed during the Forum organized by private cabinet Emergy on the national production.

These actions consist in the accords of cooperation signed by the national and foreign companies in the various sectors like mechanics industry, textile, chemistry and food-processing.

Assessing that the revival of the industrial sector constitutes a "national cause" to which all the actors must adhere, Rahmani insisted on the need to improve quality and the competitiveness of the Algerian product.

In this regard, he defended Algeria policy, notably 51/49% rule governing foreign investment questioned by some investors who see it as "a kind of protectionism."

As for him, Secretary of State for Planning and Statistics Bachir Messaitfa called national producers to "adapt their products to the model of domestic consumption and also the demands of international competitiveness."

Referring his department part in supporting the national industry, Messaitfa stated that this action focuses on improving economic governance and organizational management of the company.

Moreover, UGTA Secretary General Abdelmajid Sidi Said, also, advocated economic patriotism to support the national production.

President of the Forum of Algerian Managers (FCE) Reda Hamiani, meanwhile, blamed the informal sector for the increase in imports and thus the decline in domestic production.
