Bouchouareb calls, in Stockholm, to strengthen industrial partnership with Sweden

STOCKHOLM- Minister of Industry and Mining Abdesselam Bouchouareb and Swedish State secretary to the Minister for EU Affairs and Trade Oscar Stenstrom held Tuesday talks, in Stockholm, on the strengthening of the bilateral economic relations, notably in industry and innovation.

In a statement to the press following this meeting, Bouchouareb affirmed that Algeria and Sweden “share the same vision on the need to strengthen the relations of industrial and economic partnership between the two countries by favouring co-production.”

While broaching the implementation of the new Algerian model of economic growth, Bouchouareb said that it offers to the Swedish companies new investment opportunities by setting up local production units as part of a “win-win” partnership with Algeria.

“There has been a change in the behaviour of the Swedish companies which are, henceforth, seeking to diversify their markets and reduce their dependence on the European Union (EU),” said the minister, adding that a good number of companies presented proposals aiming at developing the concept of co-production in Algeria.

In this regard, the minister underlined that this shared vision on the need to strengthen the industrial partnership between Algeria and Sweden will allow “intensifying the bilateral exchanges with the possibility to place Algeria among Sweden’s first three partners in the region of the Middle East and North Africa.”

According to him, the agreement signed recently between Volvo and Renault Trucks will open prospects for the manufacturing of lorries bearing these two labels in Algeria, he said.

For his part, Stenstrom affirmed that these discussions were “fruitful,” underlining the “positive signs” given by Bouchouareb on the need to go faster in the development of the relations of partnership and of economic and industrial cooperation between Algeria and Sweden.
