National industry: Bouchouareb launches cement plant in Bechar

BECHAR –The industrial projects launched in Bechar are part of the new strategy of national industry development, said Tuesday Minister of Industry and Mines Abdessalem Bouchouareb.

"The launch of the construction works of the first cement plant in the country’s south confirms the initiative aiming at better exploitation of the mining resources and also meet the needs in cement," the minister said during a working visit to Bechar (965 south of Algiers).

This DZD34 billion cement plant covers an area of over 100 hectares and is planned to produce annually 1 million tons of cement.

This plant, which will be commissioned in 2019, will allow the strengthening of national production to raise it to 23 million tons a year, said officials from the Public Industrial Group of Cement of Algeria (GICA).

Coming under the Saoura-ciment company (subsidiary of GICA), the plant will created 500 direct jobs and over 800 indirect jobs, added the same officials.

On the site of this industrial project, a group of public industrial companies and a Chinese company signed a partnership agreement for the operation in 2017 of the manganese deposit of Guettara region (250 km south of Bechar).

The exploitation of the deposit which reserve is estimated at over 2 million tons will generate 80,000 tons of run-of-mine ore and 20,000 tons of metal.
