Algerian-Turkish Business Forum: Boosting partnership

ALGIERS- The Algerian-Turkish Business Forum opened Wednesday afternoon in Algiers with the objective to strengthen partnership between companies of the two countries.

The forum is part of the two-day official visit to Algeria of Turkey's President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the invitation of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Many Algerian business managers and about one hundred Turkish businessmen are taking part in the forum, which will focus mainly on the strengthening of trade and economic partnership in the non-hydrocarbon sectors.

Algeria expects that this meeting would culminate in the signing of industrial joint ventures based on the technology transfer with a view to strengthening the industrial sector and to contributing to boosting the non-hydrocarbon exports.

"We no longer want to be a market for Turkey but a trading partner," said officials of the Ministry of Industry and Mining.

In 2013, Turkey was Algeria's 7th supplier with US$ 2.07 billion of Algerian imports and its 9th customer with US$ 2.6 billion of Algerian exports, according to figures provided by Algerian Customs.

The Forum will wrap up in presence of Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and President Erdogan.
