JIJEL (Algeria)- An Algerian-Qatari joint venture for the steel project of Bellara has been created Monday in Jijel (359 km east of Algiers).

This firm based in Bellara, south-east of Jijel, is in charge of managing the $2 billion steel project achieved in partnership between Algerian group Sider which holds 51% stake, and Gatari Qatar Steel 49% stake.

The documents on its creation have been signed by Chihoub Hasnaoui, General Manager of Group Sider and Ahcene Haddad, Director of the National Investment Fund (FNI), and Ali Hassan Jamaa Merikhi, Head of Qatari delegation, in the presence of civil and military authorities of the province.

"This is another historical moment in the Algerian-Qatari relations and another step in the dynamic of the national economic revival," said prefect of Jijel, Ali Bedrici during the signing ceremony.

Sider manager, while presented the project, pointed out that the complex is "a supplementary stage for the reconstitution of the national industrial fabric."

Qatari official, as for him, has recalled the "excellent relationship between Algeria and Qatar." This new project will help "boost the social and economic development of Jijel".

The construction of a mega power plant was launched late October, confirming the construction of the steel plant that will produce, in a first phase, 2 million tons of steel per year by 2017.

Algeria and Qatar have signed on 19 December, a partnership agreement for the achievement of the Bellara steel complex in Jijel.
